Building Digital Products: Understanding the interaction between hardware and software component development in digital innovation
The project explores the central question of how interactions between the development of software and hardware components influence processes and outcomes of digital product innovations. In this respect, the project combines two perspectives on key components of digital innovative products, which have been treated rather separately in previous research. Thus, the research project aims at a holistic understanding of digital product innovation in order to reflect the progressing interweaving of integral hardware and software components in in hybrid digital products. The goal is to develop a novel, empirically sound theoretical framework for explaining digital product innovation that explicitly considers the evolution of and interactions between hardware and software components.
