Theresa Bockelmann is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hamburg, where she has held the EDEKA Endowed Chair for Digital Transformation in Retail at the Business School since July 2026.

Her research sits at the intersection of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and strategic business development. She examines how organizations strategically adopt and leverage AI technologies, how collaboration between humans and AI systems can be designed effectively, and how digital innovation enables growth. Her work has been published in leading Information Systems and Management outlets, including the Journal of the Association for Information Systems, the Information Systems Journal, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, and Harvard Business Review.

Theresa Bockelmann completed her PhD in Strategy and Entrepreneurship with distinction at the University of Münster and subsequently continued her research as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Hamburg, focusing on digital strategy, artificial intelligence, and digital innovation. Most recently, at the IU Group, Europe's largest private higher education institution, she co-led the AI research institute. She previously gained industry experience in strategy consulting at Boston Consulting Group and at a technology startup.

Beyond her research, she is an experienced executive education trainer with a focus on generative AI and business essentials.
