What is Health Care Management?
Health Care Management lays the foundations for solving problems in health care organizations. Health care organizations include service providers (e.g., hospitals, outpatient clinics, medical centers, and health insurance companies) and industrial firms (e.g., in medical technology, biotechnology, and the pharmaceutical industry).
Problems in the day-to-day operations of organizations in the health care sector include, for example, financial deficits due to a lack of strategic planning, lack of control due to generic cost accounting systems, and inadequate care of people with chronic diseases due to poor coordination between care providers.
In contrast to traditional business disciplines, Health Care Management focuses on institutions. We use methods from a wide range of areas in business administration (e.g., managerial accounting, finance, marketing, and organization), and from economics and other disciplines to solve problems.
