The lecture materials are available for download either on our website under Current Semester or in STiNE (following successful course registration), depending on the course.
Where do I get the access data for the lecture materials?
Access to documents available for download on this website requires an RRZ login. Passwords for protected PDF files are provided during the first session of the respective lecture.
Do the chairs issue performance certificates?
Certificates of course enrollment or performance confirmations cannot be issued by the chairs of the Finance, Banking & Insurance area. Please wait for the official publication of grades in STiNE or, in urgent cases, contact the Examinations Office.
I am unable to attend the exam review on the scheduled day. Is there an alternative date?
For organizational reasons, we are unfortunately unable to offer alternative dates for exam reviews. The opportunity to review the exam is therefore limited to the official scheduled date. Representation by an authorized person is not permitted for exam reviews within the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field.
If you are unable to attend the scheduled review, your exam can only be viewed at the Examinations Office. We ask for your understanding. Further information can be found on the Exam Reviews page.
How can I have externally completed coursework recognized?
In general, it is possible to have courses completed during a semester abroad recognized within the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field, provided that the content requirements are met. For organizational reasons, however, it is not possible to pre-evaluate planned courses for recognition in the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field. We ask for your understanding in this regard. For further questions about recognition and to submit the relevant applications, please contact the Academic Office.
Are prior knowledge or prerequisites required to register for the seminars?
For the Bachelor seminar, prior knowledge from the lectures “Investment and Finance” is required. Additionally, it is advantageous to have attended other courses within the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field.
For the Master seminar, a Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Finance is recommended.
How are seminar spots allocated within the focus field?
Seminar spots are allocated through STiNE and managed by the Academic Office. The chairs of the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field have no influence over the allocation of seminar spots.
What can I do if I did not receive a seminar spot?
The allocation of seminar spots is managed by the Academic Office. If you did not receive a spot despite registering via STiNE, there is usually the possibility of being assigned a place through the remaining spot allocation process. For any questions regarding this, please contact the Academic Office.
Can I change my seminar?
The allocation of seminar spots is managed by the Student Services Office. The chairs of the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field do not have the authority to change seminar assignments. However, if you are registered for a seminar but will not be attending, please inform the responsible academic staff member so that this can be taken into account in the organization of the seminar.
How are thesis topics assigned?
Thesis spots in the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field are allocated through a central assignment process. Bachelor’s thesis topics are assigned solely based on the grade achieved in the BSc seminar. For the allocation of Master’s thesis spots, the evaluation primarily considers the student’s previous performance within the focus field. Further information on the allocation process can be found under Theses.
Do I need to attend a focus field seminar in order to secure a spot?
Successful completion of a seminar is a mandatory requirement for admission to the Bachelor’s thesis. For the Master’s thesis, however, attending a seminar is not required. In cases of limited capacity, students who have already successfully completed a Master’s seminar in the Finance, Banking & Insurance focus field will be given priority. Further information on the application and allocation process can be found under Theses.
Can I submit my own topic proposal for the Bachelor’s or Master’s thesis?
For Bachelor’s theses, only predefined topics are assigned, which are designed to fit the specified 9-week processing period. The list of available topics is always published at the beginning of the application period. Individual topic proposals cannot be considered.
For Master’s theses, the topic must correspond to the focus area assigned during the application process. The topic is determined in consultation with the respective supervisor. While personal topic proposals can be considered, there is no guarantee that they will always be accepted.
Is it possible to write the thesis in cooperation with a company?
Bachelor’s theses can only be written on predefined, theoretical-conceptual topics.
Master’s thesis topics are in most cases either theoretical or empirical and are explicitly intended to develop scientific research skills. Writing a Master’s thesis in cooperation with a company is not generally excluded; however, the academic rigor of the topic must always be ensured. In any case, even when cooperating with a company, the usual application procedure for Master’s theses must be followed.
What can I do if I did not secure a spot for a thesis?
If you did not secure a spot for a thesis, you can reapply at the next available application period. The number of available spots and the number of applicants may vary for each application period, so a renewed application can still be successful. Additionally, it is possible to write a Master’s thesis in another focus field or within the general business administration (ABWL) area.
Can I change the selected start date after submitting my application?
No. It is not possible to reschedule the topic pickup appointment. You must collect your thesis topic on the scheduled start date within the specified period at the respective office. Otherwise, the supervision commitment will be considered void. If you are unable to collect your topic in person, you may authorize another person to do so on your behalf. The authorized person must bring a signed authorization form from you as well as a valid photo ID along with the required documents for topic collection.
How many supervision sessions am I entitled to during the thesis period?
There is no fixed number of supervision sessions required. The frequency and timing of meetings should be arranged individually with the respective academic supervisor according to your supervision needs.
