The study "Digital Anxiety in the Finance Function: Consequences and Mitigating Factors" has been selected for the AAA Impact Hub repository. The AAA Impact Hub represents a repository targeted for practitioners. It selects timely and actionable accounting research from international top journals that are designed to be helpful to organizations. The selection is therefore a great recognition of the research's societal impact.
The study concerns the digital transformation of organizations and uses a large survey of more than 1,000 finance employees with several interviews to provide rich insights into the anxieties of employees with regards to digital technologies. The study shows that "digital anxiety" is present among many employees and provides means for organizations to mitigate these anxietes. Interestingly, digital anxiety can root back to different topics: It is not just about a possible loss of the job. Rather, employees fear the loss of their skills and want to stick to existing company routines. Moreover, they fear the associated loss of prestige due to the diffusing use of digital technologies.
