About us

Welcome to the Professorship of Statistics! In our research projects we work with methods of Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence and especially how to use these methods for (Causal) Inference.

The main focus of these applications lies in the fields of Demand Estimation, Health Economics, Insurance and Finance. Beyond this we participate in the "Digital Health and Big Data" program at the Hamburg Center for Health Economics (hche).  Next to basic lectures for bachelor- and masterstudents, we also offer advanced lectures in Machine Learning and Causal Inference. Furthermore we teach in the "Applied Statistics and Data Science" module for undergraduates together with the Institute of Prof. Dr. Merz, to train students in the fields of Data Science and Analysis of Big Data.

In teaching (especially bachelor- and masterthesis) as well as in research we maintain numerous national and international cooperations. Together with our partners from business or the public sector we engage in an intense knowlegde transfer in order to implement state-of-the-art statistical models in real-world use cases.
