While the classical Otto catalog is printed for the last time and Amazon, alongside publishing specialized catalogs, now even opens a pop-up shop in Germany, there is the question of how the logistics industry reacts to digitalization and digital transformation.
As part of the annual conference 2018 of the Logistik Initiative Hamburg (LIHH), this year's motto being "Logistics Provide Perspectives", the Institute for Information Systems (IWI) organized two workshops to illuminate digital perspectives and to discuss them with the conference participants. The aim of the workshops, held by Dr. Leonard Heilig, Dr. Robert Stahlbock and Prof. Dr. Stefan Voß (topic sponsor [PDF]), was to first develop ideas for digital solutions for sustainable logistics and then to generate a tangible project proposal for the realization of this vision. To this end, the approximately 40 workshop participants were divided into two groups in which they discussed solutions to improve collaboration and cooperation for CEP services as well as solutions for improving decision support and information exchange in the context of slot booking procedures for the coordination of truck operations within the port. Above all, the proposed solutions are intended to improve the working conditions for drivers and the traffic situation in metropolitan regions like Hamburg in order to reduce emissions. Finally, the digital solutions were presented to the plenary taking into account sustainability aspects.
