LOGMS 2024, the 12th International Conference on Logistics and Maritime Systems, took place in the ESA east wing of the UHH main building from August 26-29, 2024. Under this year's motto “Digital Waves in Logistics and Maritime Systems: Sailing Towards Efficiency”, many currently important and interesting contributions were submitted in advance, which will soon be published in an LNCS volume.
The up-to-date presentations on these contributions provided an insightful basis for discussion and enriched the scientific part of our conference immensely, also through stimulating questions and comments. Our keynote speakers, Dr. Jan Hoffmann from UNCTAD and Dr. Yvo Saanen, founder of Portwise, provided in particluar a valuable impetus in the areas of business and ecology. Several contributions from the TwinSim project, which is funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport Affairs (BMDV) and aims to develop a digital twin for the EUROGATE Container Terminal Hamburg (CTH), were also presented at the conference. The lively discussions and hopefully fruitful networking during the coffee breaks showed once again that the LOGMS conference series and its topics could not be of a more recent and urgent importance.
In the run-up to conference, a summer school on “Digital Transformation and Optimization in Seaports” took place from 24-26 August 2020, in which Prof. Arne Heinold from Kühne Logistics University as well as Dr. Jingjing Yu, Dr. Leonard Heilig and Prof. Stefan Voß from the IWI gave lectures on various topics.
The conference dinner aboard the MS Hanseatic, blessed by great weather, and an excursion to the Eurogate container terminal in Hamburg rounded off the LOGMS conference in a worthy manner.
