Former IWI graduate Frederik Schulte, now an Associate Professor at Delft University, and the director of IWI, Stefan Voß, organized the first combined International Conference on Computational Logistics (ICCL) and EUROMar Mini Conference on Maritime Optimization and Logistics at Delft University of Technology and Erasmus University Rotterdam from September 8 to 10, 2025.
130 attendees from leading universities all around the world presented their research during the three days in three parallel tracks. The conference sessions covered the topic areas digital twins, AI in optimization, sustainable operations, urban logistics, port scheduling, and decarbonization. Keynotes were held by Kjetil Fagerholt (Prof. at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology; topic: The Role of OR in the Maritime Energy Transition), and René de Koster (Prof. at the Erasmus University Rotterdam; topic: Human-AI (Robot) Collaboration in Warehouses).
During the two excursions to Portlantis, a new interactive experience center of the Port of Rotterdam, and the Future Mobility Park Rotterdam, the conference attendees obtained valuable knowledge about the port of Rotterdam and future plans for rendering the port climate-neutral.
In his closing reflections, Stefan Voß highlighted how the profession is moving from “algorithms without applications” to real-world impact through digital twins, IoT, and AI in his speech on „How to really use Gen AI and digital twins to create systems with real-world impact“. He also invited the guests to consider generative AI not as a replacement, but as a powerful tool in the researcher’s toolbox.
ICCL & EUROMar 2025 brought together brilliant minds from logistics, maritime optimization, and AI research in Delft and Rotterdam and were a huge success. We are thrilled to announce that ICCL 2026 will be hosted byProf. Assistant Professor Malek Sarhani at the Al Akhawayn University in Rabat, Morocco.
