Doctoral Students from the University of Hamburg, Kassel and Würzburg had the opportunity to participate in a seminar on Scientific Research in Information Systems taking place at the 19th and 20th of May 2014 (http://www.bwl.uni-hamburg.de/de/forschung/promotion.html).
Prof. Dr. Jan Recker from the Queensland University of Technology was invited by Prof. Dr. Nüttgens to share his experience on research in the field of information systems with young researchers. Jan Recker is a renowned and very successful scientist who succeeded in publishing a variety of high profile articles in the most important information systems science journals (http://www.janrecker.com/). The seminar was sponsored by the newly founded Business School.
We appreciate that the faculty made this investment to provide its young researchers the opportunity to benefit from world class experts. The participants had the chance to gain basic knowledge and rich insight into the principles of scientific research, research design, theory development and research methodologies. The interaction of the course members was encouraged by presentations and discussions on particular topics held and led by the doctoral students. The fine summer weather contributed to the positive atmosphere and allowed us to finish the first course day with a relaxed BBQ in the courtyard. The seminar was a great success. All participants agreed that the presented knowledge will be very useful for their own PhD endeavors and it also opened up opportunities and starting points for future cooperation. We would like to thank Prof. Recker for his commitment and effort and we hope that he will contribute to the education of our PhD students in future workshops and seminars.
