Academic Career
Mark Heitmann is Chaired Professor of Marketing and Customer Insight at the University of Hamburg. He holds a visiting position at Nova School of Business and Economics.
He studies applications of AI in social media marketing, branding and advertising and product design. His publications have appeared in the leading international journals such as the Journal of Marketing Research, the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Political Economy, Harvard Business Review and the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science. His research has received international awards, including the MSI/H. Paul Root Award of the Marketing Science Institute and the American Marketing Association, the Robert D. Buzzel Award of the Marketing Science Institute and the Best Article Award of the European Marketing Academy and the International Journal of Research in Marketing.
After completing his studies in Business Administration at the University of Hamburg (2001), Mark received his PhD from the University of St. Gallen (2004), where he later received a post-doctoral degree (Habilitation, 2007). He has been visiting both European and international schools as a visiting researcher (including Columbia University and the Max Planck Institute for Human Development). In 2008 Mark became chaired professor of Marketing at Christian-Albrechts-University at Kiel and transferred to the University of Hamburg in 2011.
Mark is one of the few leading marketing scholars who has successfully translated research into scalable services and has actively co-founded internationally leading software-as-a-service marketing technologies. With his academic and practical background, he serves as an investor, consultant, and key-note speaker.
