The impact of public reporting on hospital performance (BA/MA)
Background:
Publicly available quality reports from healthcare providers have become a common tool to promote the quality of healthcare services and, at the same time, to increase cost effectiveness. The bottom line is that consumers will base their decision on the transparent quality indicator and choose the health care provider with the highest quality. Therefore, quality reports encourage consumers to get involved and providers are motivated to improve their quality of care to attract more patients. This shift towards transparency is driven by the belief that publicly available data can drive improvements in hospital performance and quality by fostering competition and encouraging healthcare providers to prioritize patient safety and satisfaction. However, the multifaceted impact of public reporting on hospital performance remains a complex and evolving area of research.
Objective:
The aim of this thesis is to conduct a systematic literature review to examine the impact of public reporting on hospital performance.
