Prof. Dr. Karen Gedenk joined the University of Hamburg in 2010 and holds the chair for Marketing and Pricing at the University’s Business School. She has previously been a full professor at the Goethe University Frankfurt (2000 – 2004) and at the University of Cologne (2004 – 2010). She studied Business Administration at the WHU – Otto Beisheim School of Management, the ESC Lyon (France) and Northwestern University (USA). She obtained her PhD and “Habilitation” from the University of Kiel (advisor: Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Sönke Albers). She has been a Visiting Scholar at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth (USA), at INSEAD (France), at the University of Vienna (Austria), and at the University of Technology in Sydney (Australia).
Karen Gedenk teaches classes on Pricing, Promotions and Marketing Research. Her research also focuses on Pricing and Promotions. She studies the effects of these marketing instruments empirically, using market data and experimental surveys. She cooperates with many companies, especially in the fast moving consumers goods and media industries. Her work has been published in major journals like Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Marketing, and International Journal of Research in Marketing.
