Prof. Petra Steinorth has been appointed president of the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA).
Prof. Petra Steinorth, Dean of the University of Hamburg Business School, has assumed the presidency of the American Risk and Insurance Association (ARIA). Founded in 1932, ARIA is a scholarly association whose membership brings together a diverse range of academics and practitioners working in the fields of risk and insurance. It provides a platform for exchanging ideas on various issues related to these fields, aiming to contribute to solving some of the most important global challenges in risk management and to advance academic education in this area. Among ARIA’s key activities are the organization of its Annual Meetings and the publication of two peer-reviewed journals, including the renowned “Journal of Risk and insurance”.
At the Annual Meeting in Orlando in August 2026, Prof. Steinorth highlighted the central ideas of “Identity” and “Purpose” in her Incoming President Remarks. In particular, she emphasized the importance of the academic community, knowledge exchange, and mutual support within ARIA, as well as the shared responsibility to advance the field and support the next generation of scholars.
Given the rapidly changing world and the various corresponding challenges – including issues such as climate change as well as cyber and health risks – Petra Steinorth also highlighted the growing importance of risk and insurance research. In this context, she underscored ARIA’s central role in addressing the complex questions arising from these challenges, conducting research on them, and sharing the resulting insights.
