Being currently enrolled as PhD student at Hamburg Business School, Sophia Bock recently started a joint research project with her supervisor Petra Steinorth and two researchers at the Maurice R. Greenberg School of Risk Management, Insurance and Actuarial Science (GSRM), St. John’s University, New York. GSRM holds a double designation as a Global Center of insurance Excellence as well as an Actuarial Center of Excellence and is one of the highest ranked insurance programs in the United States according to US News and World report on America’s best colleges.
After a first research stay in February/March, a second visit is planned end of summer 2023. The research visits are part of a joint research project on flood insurance, government relief programs, and economic recovery in Europe in collaboration with Petra Steinorth (Universität Hamburg), Mark J. Browne (St. John’s University, New York), and Xiao (Joyce) Lin (St. John’s University, New York). Working directly at St. John’s University is the ideal opportunity for Sophia Bock to collaborate with several professors in her field and get insightful feedback and guidance to further expand her research and academic network. She also makes use of the excellent library and teaching resources at St. John’s.
Sophia has been appointed Berkley Fellow by the GSRM and also received financial support from Deutscher Verein für Versicherungswissenschaft.
