Postdoctorate: Dr. Moritz Lukas

On 23 October 2024, Dr. Moritz Lukas presented his postdoctoral thesis, “Individual Financial and Economics Decision-Making.” The dissertation by publication consists of 13 empirical studies at the junction of behavorial science and financial or economic decisions.
The 42-year-old businessman studied business administration at the University of Münster and received his Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration at the Norwegian School of Economics in Bergen. During his studies, he had a scholarship from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation. After several years as a corporate consultant with McKinsey & Company, Lukas did a doctorate at the professorship for banking and behavioral finance at the University of Hamburg under Prof. Dr. Markus Nöth. He was awarded a summa cum laude and went on to do postdoctoral research. His research focuses on behavioral finance, behavioral economics, and household finance. Most of his work is based on data from self-designed economics experiments, cooperation with banks, and his own surveys.
During his tenure at the University of Hamburg, Lukas received the Hamburg Teaching Prize from the Ministry of Science, Research and Equalities in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in university teaching. His research has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Banking and Finance and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization; presented at prestigious conferences such as the Financial Intermediation Research Society (FIRS); and awarded with prizes such as the Finanzkompass from Finanzplatz Hamburg e.V.
Since 2017, Lukas has had managing positions in sales and marketing in a variety of tech companies. First, he built up the sales and marking section of the Hamburg tax tech company Taxdoo. He guided the company as it grew from 4 to 250 employees and gained investors before he became the head of sales at the fulfillment company byrd. Since 2024, Lukas has been part of the management for the commercial section of Xentral, a provider of enterprise resource planning (ERP) solutions.
