In the elective module ‘Academic Mentoring’, Bachelor's and Master's students receive advice on all aspects of their studies, academic work and careers at various start dates.
Several semesters ago, the University of Hamburg Business School introduced a new module format: the ‘Academic Mentoring’ programme. The module is offered as an elective and runs over three semesters. If you are interested in intensive discussions about important decisions and problems in your studies, about science as an attitude and mindset, and about career decisions related to your studies, this is the right place for you.
The School professors lead a small group of students who remain together for a year and a half, enabling intensive and trusting discussions. As part of their examination, participants write a learning journal throughout the entire period, which is graded as ‘pass’ or ‘fail’.
The first two groups in the Master's and Bachelor's programmes have already completed the module. Evaluations show that students are very satisfied with this offering and that it has provided them with many ideas for their personal development. The podcast ‘BWL on Air’ also features a new episode on academic mentoring, in which two Master's students from the first group talk to Prof. Dr. Dorothea Alewell, programme director of the Bachelor's programme in Business Administration, about their experiences.
The next opportunity for second-semester Master's students to register is for the summer semester 2026 for a new round of academic mentoring with Prof. Dr. Dorothea Alewell.
Third-semester bachelor's students are expected to be able to start again in the winter semester 26/27. Keep an eye out for the offer in the UHH Business School's elective modules!
