On 10 Juli 2024, the Faculty of Business Administration celebrated its tenth anniversary followed by the Faculty’s summer fest.
The ceremony at the Agathe Lasch lecture hall in the University’s Main Building drew an audience of about 100 guests who embarked on a journey through time in spite of hot temperatures. Vice Dean Prof. Dr. Petra Steinorth emceed the ceremony. Dean Prof. Dr. Henrik Sattler presented milestones of the past 10 years, including the ceremonial act with Founding Dean Prof. Dr. Martin Nell and the EQUIS accreditation in October 2023. Dr. Volker Pekron, head of the Department of Finance at the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and former faculty manager of the Faculty of Business Administration, recounted the Faculty’s history. Martin Ostermayer, founder of Shortcut Ventures GmbH, Faculty advisory board member and adjunct lecturer, shared stories about his time as a student in Hamburg when business administration was still taught at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences; in particular, about how he joined up with a classmate to lay the foundation for starting their own businesses. The ceremony ended with University Chief Sustainability Officer Prof. Dr. Laura Marie Edinger-Schons’ contribution about sustainability: What overall efforts are the Faculty and the University taking and what measures have already become visible?
Between the speeches, vocal studies student Antonia Alves Schlünzen, a Faculty graduate and employee, and pianist Henry Paul Teichert inspired the audience with their musical accompaniment.
During the closing reception, guests could share experiences before moving over to the Faculty’s summer fest at the Haus der Betriebswirtschaft where Faculty employees, speakers, former members, advisory board members, and invited guests enjoyed a balmy night.
Dean Prof. Dr. Henrik Sattler seemed very pleased on this special day: “The Faculty thrives on the exchange of everyone involved: Teachers, students, employees, emeriti, retired professors, advisory board members, and supporters. The day showed that unity is key to achievement— especially, because we are a small faculty and were founded with a mission.”
