Last Friday, Prof. Henrik Sattler, dean of our Business School, proudly awarded an honorary doctorate to the esteemed Prof. Harald van Heerde, marking a rare and significant moment in our Business School’s history. This honor has only been bestowed once before, and we are thrilled that Prof. Marnik Dekimpe, who received this prestigious recognition, is here to celebrate with us.
Last Friday, Prof. Henrik Sattler, dean of our Business School, proudly awarded an honorary doctorate to the esteemed Prof. Harald van Heerde, marking a rare and significant moment in our Business School’s history. This honor has only been bestowed once before, and we are thrilled that Prof. Marnik Dekimpe, who received this prestigious recognition, is here to celebrate with us.
Together with key note speaker Prof. Laura Marie Edinger-Schons, member of the Executive University Board, it was a pleasure to highlight Prof. van Heerde's remarkable contributions to the field of marketing and academia. He is Research Professor of Marketing at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, and his accomplishments speak volumes.
Here are just a few highlights of his impressive career:
- Ranked among the top 10 most productive marketing scholars globally over the past decade.
- Published 40 articles in prestigious A+ journals, including 10 in the Journal of Marketing and 22 in the Journal of Marketing Research, and 8 in Marketing Science.
- Winner of 10 best-paper awards of top marketing journals and a finalist an additional 22 times.
- Served as an esteemed editor for the Journal of Marketing, where he played a crucial role in doubling its impact factor. Moreover, he was Editorial Board Member and Associate Editor for the Journal of Marketing Research and for Marketing Science.
- Engaged with industry giants such as Unilever and Edeka, developing sales promotion effect measurement tools.
- Chaired major conferences such as the Marketing Science Conference in 2024, fostering collaboration and innovation within the marketing community.
- Mentored numerous PhD students, for example Prof. Alexa Burmester, Professor at Kühne Logistics University, or Prof. Dominik Papies, Professor at the University of Tübingen, who have achieved great success, exemplifying his commitment to nurturing future leaders in our field.
- Delivered over 70 invited talks at leading universities worldwide including Oxford, Wharton, Duke, Chicago and University of Hamburg, sharing his expertise and fostering global academic dialogue.
- Served as an international fellow for the DFG Research Group on “How Social Media is Changing Marketing” at our Business School.
