Eliko Tkabladze is the only woman from Hamburg to be the new ambassador for the “Study in Germany - Land of Ideas” 2025/26 campaign.
27-year-old Georgian Eliko Tkabladze is the new ambassador for the “Study in Germany – Land of Ideas” 2025/26 campaign, an initiative of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMFTR) implemented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). She was the only person from Hamburg to qualify for this role and promotes Germany as a place of study for international students. An important part of this is the production of social media material for channels such as Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok.
Eliko is enrolled in the Master's program in Business Administration at the Business School and told us about her impressions and new tasks.
Eliko, what exactly is the goal of the “Study in Germany – Land of Ideas” campaign?
The campaign aims to present Germany as an open and welcoming place to study – characterized by innovation, opportunities, and cultural diversity. As one of the newly selected ambassadors, I will share my experiences as an international student and show the reality of student life in Germany. I look forward to accompanying future international students on their journey.
Has your everyday life changed as a result of your new role, for example due to travel or appointments for the campaign?
I travel occasionally during the campaign. For example, I spent a weekend in Berlin for a workshop. A video and photo shoot is planned for the coming weeks. However, the trips only take place on weekends and do not interfere with my studies.
My everyday life has changed as a result. In addition to my studies, I also work as a student trainee in social media marketing. This means that my week is very demanding. However, I always find a solution: I plan my week in a structured way so that I can effectively combine my studies, work, and free time. I also recommend that other students use their time wisely. At the same time, I make sure to keep my work and studies clearly separate and to always remain productive.
How do you feel as an international student in the Master's program in Business Administration?
I feel at home here. The university makes us feel truly welcome. Our professors are friendly, experienced, and always happy to answer our questions. You get the feeling that they are even happy when we are active and ask questions.
At first, I was worried that I wouldn't understand everything, as German is not my native language. But thanks to our helpful professors and the tutorials, I quickly settled in.
I am also particularly grateful to the Student Office – they are always there to support us. You really feel well looked after.
How long have you been living in Germany and why did you decide to study in Hamburg?
I came to Hamburg in 2021 – and fell in love with the city after just a few months. Hamburg offers many opportunities and possibilities, even for international students.
I made a conscious decision to study at the University of Hamburg. On my daily commute to language school, I often passed the university campus and said to myself every time: “One day I will study there.” This thought gave me strength and motivation.
In 2023, I only applied to five universities. Although I received several acceptances, I only wanted to go to the University of Hamburg. When I received my admission at the end of August, I was the happiest person in the world. I was very proud – and so was my family.
Would you recommend studying in Hamburg and at the Business School to other international students?
Choosing Hamburg is a very sensible and forward-looking decision. Hamburg is a city full of opportunities – with international companies, career opportunities, development prospects, and also great potential for start-ups.
If you want to start your own business while you're studying, this is the place to be. The University of Hamburg Business School offers great advice and support in the field of entrepreneurship, as well as lots of fairs and workshops for students. For example, in April, Hamburg hosted ChefTreff, where you could get in touch with lots of companies.
I'd like to say a big thank you to the University of Hamburg and the Business School for this opportunity. I am particularly impressed by how strongly the topics of innovation, digitalization, and artificial intelligence are promoted in the Master's program in Business Administration.
In addition, Hamburg is beautiful in every season—whether it's the Elbe beach or the city park—I love being here and experiencing the rhythm of this city.
