From the Winter Semester 2025/26, bachelor’s students in Business Administration will be able to take a new course in the free elective area that promises to be very practical and relevant while also training students’ soft skills: Managing Stakeholder Realities with lecturer Sid Brammer from CTG-Consulting.
“As a consultant and managing director, I experience every day how crucial good stakeholder management is for the success of a company—be it in customer projects, investor discussions or conflicts within the team,” says Brammer. “If you understand the interests and perspectives of your stakeholders and take them seriously, you can make sustainable decisions and shape change processes. As an alumnus of the University of Hamburg, the transfer between business and teaching is particularly important to me—after all, I still benefit today from what I learned back then.”
The module builds on stakeholder management theories and combines business administration knowledge acquired during the course with practical application in the corporate context, particularly in stakeholder management. Students analyze perspectives, interests, and strategies of external and internal stakeholder groups, work out characteristics and specifics, and develop communication strategies and engagement plans.
Participants gain an insight into the practical work and typical perspectives and interests of various stakeholder groups such as customers, employees, managers, investors, and the public. Typical stakeholder interactions are first simulated and then followed up, for example discussions with customers or employees, project work, a pitch, or campaign work.
“We are very pleased to be able to offer this very practical course on various stakeholder perspectives in the bachelor’s program,” says Prof. Dorothea Alewell. “Diversity does not only exist in the directly related fields of activity, but also in the views and perspectives of different stakeholders in the organizations and companies. Developing a good eye for this helps enormously in managing organizational change processes.”
The module comprises 90 hours of workload for the students and is divided into units of 5 x 90 minutes and 1 x 180 minutes or a total of 10.5 hours in attendance in the seminar room. Three credit points can be earned by attending the course. Participants keep a learning journal for evaluation purposes. The course is currently planned for every winter semester.
