The University of Hamburg Business School is actively committed to diversity, equal opportunities and sustainability. There are two new episodes on these topics in the BWL on Air podcast, in which the respective officers exchange views with Prof. Dorothea Alewell, Dean and Professor of Human Resources Management.
No. 8: Diversity and equal opportunity
Prof. Anne Lauscher, Representative for Equal Opportunities at the Business School and Professor of Data Science, talks in episode 8 about the importance of diversity and equal opportunity—for example, dealing openly and respectfully with people who come from other cultures and have different backgrounds or lifestyles. The aim of the Business School is to promote equal opportunities and mutual support—with initiatives such as parent-child rooms for all University members, workshops specifically for FLINTA*s and advice on discrimination.
Diversity also plays a major role in research and teaching—from topics such as careers and gender to AI and discrimination. Students are invited to contribute their own questions and write theses on diversity topics.
This podcast topic stands for two of the Business School's core values: Openness in the sense of openness to diversity and connectedness, the feeling of belonging and mutual support.

No. 9: Sustainability
In this podcast, Prof. Simone Neumann, Representative for Sustainability and Professor of Business Administration with a focus on Sustainable Logistics and Mobility Systems, talks about sustainability as a central guiding principle in teaching, research, administration and everyday campus life.
The topic is reflected in research projects, sustainability-related modules and summer schools as well as in campus operations: from energy-efficient buildings to initiatives such as the Biking to Work campaign. Students can get involved with their own ideas, projects or via the sustainability certificate.
This commitment is based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Inner Development Goals, which also emphasize personal development and cooperation. Ecology, social issues and the economy are considered holistically.
The two core values of the Business School—Impact and Responsibility—encourage a commitment to sustainability by promoting practical research, critical thinking, and the assumption of responsibility.
