Services for Lecturers
Before the semester starts
Important semester dates / Overview of important dates for the current semester
The most important semester dates can be found under the heading “Termine/Aktuelles” (Dates and deadlines).
Course planning
Course planning begins each semester with a list of available courses, which then serves as the basis for scheduling and room planning for the upcoming semester. At Universität Hamburg, courses and the corresponding practical courses are entered into SharePoint (since November 2021) under “Lehrankündigung” (courses to be offered) via the following link:
https://sharepoint.uni-hamburg.de/fakultaeten/bwl/lehrankuendigung
The examiners must submit the assessment to the Academic Office via SharePoint before this deadline.
If you have any questions about course planning, please contact the Academic Office at lehrplanung.bwl@uni-hamburg.de.(lehrplanung.bwl"AT"uni-hamburg.de)
Planning examinations
The Academic Office plans the times and rooms for examinations.
When you enter your courses via SharePoint, you can request desired dates for the two exam periods. The first exam period comes right after the end of the lecture period, and the second takes place at the end of the semester.
If you have any questions about course planning, please contact the Academic Office at klausurplanung.bwl@uni-hamburg.de.(klausurplanung.bwl"AT"uni-hamburg.de)
Using STiNE: introduction and support
To use STiNE, you will need a uni username, a password, and a transaction number (TAN list). The Regional Computing Center at Universität Hamburg (RRZ) will send you your login details for STiNE by postal mail to your work address.
The professorship must submit a request to the Regional Computing Center (RRZ) asking that you be entered as a lecturer on STiNE and receive the corresponding access rights. If a lecturer or practical course leader is not listed under the corresponding lectures and practical courses, it could be because this person has not yet been entered as a lecturer in STiNE. The professorship must submit the request to the Regional Computing Center (RRZ) for lecturers to receive the necessary access rights for STINE courses and exams. It is only after the Regional Computing Center (RRZ) has received this request that a lecturer’s status can be entered in STiNE that the study office can, for example, set up a lecturer’s access rights for the desired modules in STiNE.
As teaching staff, you can take care of a variety of administrative tasks via the STiNE academic information portal. There is no need to install anything on your computer—Internet access and an up-to-date browser suffice.
Log into the STiNE portal using your username and password. When you log in the first time, you will be prompted to set your own password and answer a security question. After you log in, you will be directed to the home page. Select “Lehre” (teaching) in the menu to access the functions that are relevant for you.
If you ever lose your documents, go to the Regional Computing Center at Universität Hamburg (Schlüterstraße 70) and present your identity card to be issued replacement documents.
In case of technical questions or if you have problems with your login details, please contact the STiNE support service at the Regional Computing Center (RRZ):

If you have any questions about using STiNE, you can also contact the Regional Computing Center (RRZ).
In addition, you can go to Service in the STiNE menu to read instructions on the most important functions. Topics that might be of interest to you include the following:
- uploading course materials
- sending STiNE messages
- setting course participants to inactive
At the end of the semester
Examination dates
There are 2 examination periods in each semester. The exact dates are listed in the overview of important dates provided by the Academic Office. As soon as the exam dates are scheduled, they will be entered in STiNE. Please note that STiNE entries are binding. If you have concerns about course planning, please contact the Academic Office at klausurplanung.bwl@uni-hamburg.de.(klausurplanung.bwl"AT"uni-hamburg.de)
Registering for and withdrawing from examinations
In order to be able to register for a course-related examination, the student must be registered for the corresponding course. With the exception of examinations for seminars, students may withdraw from examinations in STiNE up to 4 days before the examination. Registration is possible up to 8 days before the examination. If students have any problems registering for or withdrawing from examinations, please refer to the Business Administration Academic Office.
Conducting examinations
All important information on supervising examinations is summarized in the following document :Hinweise und Hilfestellung für die Klausuraufsicht.
Please download the following forms, complete the fields in the examination section on your computer, and print as many copies as you may need:
- Protokoll über einen mutmaßlichen Täuschungsversuch (report for allegation of attempted cheating) with the fields course name, examiner, date, and time.
- Erklärung zur Klausurteilnahme unter Vorbehalt (statement for taking part in a written examination subject to review) with the fields course name, examiner, date, and time.
Compensation for disadvantages
Students having a disability or chronic illness, which affects their ability to study, can apply for a compensation for disadvantages.
Decisions on compensation for disadvantages are made by the examinations board responsible for the degree program at the request of the student and with the participation of the representative for staff and students with disabilities or chronic diseases.
If students eligible for compensation for disadvantages will be taking your examinations, you will be contacted by the Academic Office and advised of the measures to be implemented.
Cheating and plagiarism
Cheating and plagiarism
If a student attempts to cheat or use unauthorized aids or resources during an examination, the examination will be graded as “insufficient” (5.0) or “fail.” This also applies to students who allow others to copy their work during an examination, where such group work has not been explicitly permitted.
A student shall not be excluded from continuing the examination if caught cheating or using unauthorized aids or resources during or after an examination has been handed out. The respective examination supervisor shall complete the Report for Allegation of Attempted Cheating form ("Protokoll über einen mutmaßlichen Täuschungsversuch") and promptly submit it after the examination has finished to the chair of the examinations board via the Business Administration Academic Office. The student will be promptly notified of the accusation. The chair of the examinations board determines whether or not the examinee attempted to cheat. The student must be afforded due process and given an opportunity to be heard on the matter.
Generative AI tools
In addition, we currently face the problem that there are different rules for dealing with the use of Generative AI tools. For this reason, the program director elaborated a recommendation which may provide a certain degree of guidance. At this stage, due to a lack of regulations, teachers and examiners decide if, when and how generative AI may be used by students.
Entering and correcting grades
Lecturers enter their grades in STiNE. Detailed information about entering grades in STiNE can be found under the “Service” tab in STiNE.
Exam results must be entered prior to the grade deadlines posted. These 2 deadlines are listed in our dates and deadlines. This overview will be sent to you before the beginning of the semester via the faculty mailing list.
File your list of grades in a safe place, you do not need to send them to the Academic Office.
Important: Grades may not be published on the Internet. A list of grades may be posted by the professorship after the grades have been published in STINE.
Once the grades have been released, you can no longer change or correct them yourself. Any required changes must be submitted to the Academic Office in the Department of Business Administration in the form of a paper list that includes the lecturer’s signature.
Final theses
Registering for the bachelor’s and master’s thesis
Students can get the application form to register their final thesis from the Academic Office. The examiner should enter the topic of the thesis (legibly and, if possible, in block letters) on the form. The signature date of the examiner (which may not be in the future) is the start date of the time the student has to complete the thesis. After the examiner has assigned the topic, the application form should be returned to the Academic Office.
Once the thesis has been registered, changes, additions (e.g., subheadings), can generally no longer be made.
Submitting assessments to the Academic Office
The grading period for the thesis may be either 12 weeks or 3 months, depending on the examination regulations. The Academic Office will send the examiners the exact deadlines along with the final theses package. The examiners must submit the assessment to the Academic Office via SharePoint before the deadline.
Log into SharePoint and go to “Digitaler Gutachtenversand der Abschlussarbeit” (digital submission of thesis assessments):
https://sharepoint.uni-hamburg.de/fakultaeten/bwl/studienbueroGutachten/
You are no longer required to post assessments to the academic office.
