From the 13th to the 19th of June 2024, the 32th European Conference on Information Systems (ECIS) took place in Paphos in Cyprus. The ECIS is renowned for bringing together the world's leading researchers from the diverse field of Information Systems (IS). This year, around 1.000 people from different IS disciplines travelled to Cyprus to participate at the conference. The conference’s topic was „People First: Constructing Digital Futures Together“. At the conference, novel research of currently relevant topics such as GenAI, Digital Sustainability, and Digital Transformations were presented and discussed by the international authors. The conference also provided the opportunity to participate in workshops ranging topic-wise from academic paper development to data analytics. Insightful were also the industry and academic keynotes by Yoni Assia, the co-founder of e-Toro, and Haridimos Tsoukas, professor at the University of Cyprus and Warwick Business School, highlighting the clear aim to create synergies and transfer knowledge between practitioners and researchers. The conference took place at a stunning location between palm trees at the Mediterranean sea offering a great background for the social gatherings and regional touristic activities, which were also part of the event.
ECIS 2024, the faculty of Business Administration of Universität Hamburg was present with two doctoral researchers, namely Eva Glanze and Thomas Mayer, who both are currently supervised by Prof. Dr. Recker.
- Eva participated in the four-day doctoral consortium with around 20 other fellow PhD researchers from all over Europe and South Africa. There, she presented her doctoral research on corporate twin transformation to receive feedback from renowned international information systems scholars. Being a mother of two young children, Eva especially benefitted from the career advice leading senior information systems scholars such as Dorothy E. Leidner, Ulrike Schultze, Mari-Klara Stein and Jan Marco Leimeister provided.
- Thomas' first research paper titled "Bridging Agility and Financing: Preliminary Insights from the Scaled Agile Transformation of a German Automotive Manufacturer" was accepted at the conference. Thus, he was invited to present this short paper and emergent research efforts in one of the paper sessions within the conference track of "Digital Transformation". A follow-up investigation of this research-in-progress paper was also accepted and is soon to be published in the Project Management Journal of the Project Management Institute.
Both Eva and Thomas would like to thank the ISDI for the generous financial support enabling the rewarding attendance of the ECIS 2024 in Cyprus.
